WHITBY, Ont. – CAW members at the Lear facility in Whitby approved a new collective agreement at a meeting earlier on Sunday.

The deal was originally reached on October 29, after a two-day long strike, but only just finalized at the recent meeting.

Production workers approved the contract by 77 per cent, while skilled trades workers approved it by 100 per cent.

Lear had originally asked for around $20 million in concessions in time off the job, retirement incentives, lump sum payments and skilled trades improvements.

The contract contains some changes to work practices, however there is a goal of positioning the facility for future investment.

Another stipulation of the deal is that if Lear acquires future seat-building contracts GMs models, they will be built in the Whitby location.
