MONTREAL: The aft fuselage of Bombardier Aerospace’s new Global 7000 and 8000 business jets will be built at the company’s Mexican plant.

The Montreal-based aerospace giant said its plant in Queretaro is already producing big components for several Bombardier business aircraft, such as the aft fuselage of the Global 5000 and 6000 jets.

Major composite structures for the Learjet 85 are also produced there including fuselage lay-up and sub-system installation; wiring harness fabrication and installation; wing assembly; and horizontal and vertical stabilizer assemblies.

The Global 7000 and 8000 jets, which feature emissions reducing and fuel efficient General Electric Passport engines, will undergo final assembly at Bombardier’s plant in Toronto, and interiors will be done at its site in Dorval, Que.

Bombardier’s Queretaro plant employs 1,700 workers.

The company said Global 7000 jets go into service in 2016, followed by the 8000s in 2017.
