MAUMEE, OH.—Dana Holding Corp. will receive a $2-million grant from the Province of ontario for the development and manufacture of lithium-ion battery cooling technologies for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles.
The companys air and liquid-cooled battery technologies are used by several global automakers for 16 electric and hybrid-electric vehicles, including the Chevrolet Volt, Fords Focus EV and the Tesla Roadster.
Clean energy is a global need and will require commitments from both public and private sectors to make alternative-energy vehicles more broadly available, said Dwayne Matthews, president of the Power Technologies business at Dana.
The grant will support Dana’s RD work at its thermal products engineering center in Oakville, manufacturing efforts at its plant in Cambridge; and collaboration with several ontario universities in the development of battery cooling systems.
In conjunction with the grant—and based on anticipated growth of its business—Dana expects to invest up to $37 million in its Oakville and Cambridge facilities over the next five years.
Dana supplies of driveline products, such as axles, driveshafts and transmissions power technologies and service parts to light-and heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers. based in Maumee, OH., the company employs approximately 24,000 people in 26 countries and reported 2010 sales of $6.1 billion.
