OSHAWA—General Motors will invest $117 million to prepare its Oshawa Assembly Plant to build the new Cadillac XTS sedan, creating or retaining 400 jobs on the plant’s Flex Line.

“Adding the Cadillac XTS affirms GM’s commitment to a strong manufacturing base in Canada, ensuring Oshawa will have a critical role in the ongoing transformation of Cadillac,” says Kevin Williams, president and managing director of General Motors of Canada.

The Oshawa Assembly Plant has undergone major changes in the last year, adding the Chevrolet Equinox, the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible and the Buick Regal.

Those expansions created 1,300 jobs, adding two shifts. The facility also builds the Chevrolet Impala and employs 4,500 people.

First shown as the Cadillac XTS Platinum concept car last year, the final production model Cadillac XTS will be revealed in the coming months.

The new sedan is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system matched with a 350 horse-power, 3.6L V6 engine. The car can be plugged into a standard electric outlet.

Production is planned to start in the first half of 2012.
