2010 stats confirm global steel surge

The Brussels, Belgium-based World Steel Association has released global steel metrics for 2010 in its 2011 edition of World Steel in Figures. World Steel in Figures lists the top steel-producing countries and  member companies.  In 2010 the five major steel producing countries (million metric tons) were:

Total world production was 1,413.5 mmt in 2010, up from 1,230.9 mmt in 2009. This is a 19 percent increase year over year.

World Steel in Figures 2011 is now available from the association. The World Steel Association is one of the largest industry associations in the world, representing approximately 180 steel producers (including 18 of the worlds 20 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes. Association members produce 85% of the worlds steel.
