Sandvik Coromant U.S. celebrated the grand opening of its new U.S. headquarters in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. On October 16, 2014, the new headquarters officially opened. The 100,000 square-foot facility contains a combination of modern office space, extensive meeting facilities, and a state-of-the-art Productivity Center and ITAR-certified Aerospace Application Center with machining capacity for customer training, engineering and process development.
“Sandvik was one of the original businesses to invest in the Fair Lawn industrial park development back in 1955. The recent $26 million, state-of-the-art redevelopment of the site by Sandvik demonstrates the company’s commitment to its customers, its employees and the local community,” says Karl Almquist, Sandvik Coromant’s new building project leader. Sandvik has been a persence at Fair Lawn since the mid-1950s and will continue to this tradition.
The new facility was constructed on a portion of the original building footprint with a focus on reducing environmental impact while enhancing the work environment. Furthermore, energy conservation was a major objective of the redevelopment project. The new facility was constructed with materials and systems controls that promote energy efficiency and reduce water consumption. In fact, more than 75 per cent of all waste generated from the construction was diverted from landfills and either reused, recycled or repurposed.
As part of the company’s community outreach efforts, much of the furnishings and equipment from the previous building were donated to various local organizations including the Borough of Fair Lawn, Habitat for Humanity, Fair Lawn Public Schools, and the Fair Lawn Fire and Rescue departments. Particular care was also employed to ensure that the existing landscaping and grounds were protected and maintained to include the preservation of the beloved ‘Sandvik Red Oak’ tree which now proudly stands at the building’s entrance.
