Siemens Canada Limited has announced that it will be the supplier for wind turbines for the Cedar Point II Wind Project. This project is committed to supplying renewable energy and is estimated to power 40,000 homes.

Siemens will provide, deliver, and install 46 SWT-2.3-113 direct-drive wind turbines to the Cedar Point project in Sarnia, ON, as well as provide a 2-year service and maintenance agreement.

“As a leading supplier of wind power solutions in Ontario, we are excited to bring our direct-drive technology to the Cedar Point II Wind Project and to continue to provide Canadians with clean, sustainable and reliable energy, says Jacob Andersen, Head of Wind Power Renewables, Siemens Canada Limited.

Siemens is committed to manufacturing all 138 55 -meter blades at the Siemens wind turbine blade facility in Tillsonburg, ON and all steel towers will be manufactured in Ontario. The project further demonstrates the progress of the Green Energy Act as part of the Province’s commitment to economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Siemens direct drive wind turbines feature only half of the parts required for a conventional geared wind turbine and a significantly smaller number of moving parts. The efficiency in-creases due to minimum losses in drive train and generator. The proven technology of the SWT-2.3-113 benefits from the experiences of 250 gearless Siemens wind turbines in opera-tion. With its simplified lightweight design it’s a secure and profitable investment.
