HIROSHIMA, Japan — Mazda Motor Corporation has unveiled the all-new Mazda2 or Mazda Demio as it is known in Japan.

The new Mazda2 has undergone redesign for the first time is seven years and production is underway at Mazdas Hofu Plant No. 1 in Yamaguchi, Japan. This newly redesigned model is the forth in Mazdas line-up (along with CX-5, Mazda6, and Mazda3) to adopt the full range of SKYACTIV Technology and KODO Soul of Motion design. New SKYACTIV engines, transmissions, body and chassis allow the redesigned Mazda2 to perform like larger next-generation models, with the sleek look of a compact vehicle. It offers both outstanding safety and eco-friendly performance. Mazda has also added cutting-edge technology including Mazda Connect car connectivity system and i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety features.

The SKYACTIVE-D 1.5, a small-displacement clean diesel engine, will be available in some markets. Along with next-generation high-efficiency direct-inject gasoline engines, the SKYACTIVE-G 1.3 and 1.5, allow for Mazda to offer an engine line-up specifically designed for different market needs.

The all-new Mazda2 is slated to be rolled out in the global market, starting in Japan, in early autumn. However, will not reach the Canadian market until 2015 with the SKYACTIV-G 1.5-litre gasoline engine.

The Mazda2 is Mazdas core product, with over 2.4 million units in total global sales.
