OTTAWA Statistics Canadas raw materials price index rose 0.2 per cent in May while its industrial product price index for the month was unchanged from Aprils weak showing.
Higher prices for animals and animal products were largely behind the rise in the Raw Materials Price Index, Statistics Canada reported Friday.
The federal agency says May was the largest increase since June 2012 for animals and animal products.
Higher prices for petroleum and coal products also offset declines for primary metal products and lumber and other wood products.
Statistics Canadas industrial index stayed the same in May after falling 0.9 per cent in April, with seven of the major product groups up, eight down and six unchanged.
For the raw materials index, four of the major product groups were up, two were down and one stayed the same as last month.
