MISSISSAUGA Samuel, Son & Co. has announced they have completed of the acquisition of Wilkinson Steel and metals assets.

The acquisition was undertaken to increase Samuels presence in Western Canada and give them branches located in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

After the merger Samuel will be able to add a new product line of bars and structurals to the current product line in Western Canada as well as strengthening their capacity to produce carbon plate and carbon flat rolled.

Bill Hughes, who is the current president of Wilkinson Steel and metals, will assume the role of Vice President and General Manager of Wilkinson Steel and metals, which will operate as an independent division of Samuel.

The company is planning to target the forestry, mining, and shipbuilding industries of B.C.; oil and gas and mining in Alberta; and agriculture, mining and oil in Saskatchewan.

Samuel, Son & Co., Limited is a family owned business founded in 1855 and is the fourth largest metal processor and distributor in North America. They employ over 5,000 in plants in North America, and facilities in the UK, Australia and China.

Wilkinson was founded in 1910 and has long been a steel supplier for western Canada.
