Thomas Skinner hosted open houses on October 2, 2013 at their locations is Winnipeg and Calgary.
The Winnipeg location saw a record turnout for the Haas Factory Outlet DemoDay20 and had some of the following machines on dislplay:
• Haas VF4: exhibited various fast removal techniques using various methods (conventional and unconventional) Sandvik tooling and high speed machining
• Haas ST-30: large hole drilling, heavy threading, anti-vibration bars and through tool coolant grooving

These types of events provide our customers with the opportunity to explore the latest innovations through live demonstrations and supplier displays. Thomas Skinner is now the exclusive distributor for Okamoto Grinders in Western Canada and was pleased to have an ACC12-24DX grinder at the show.
“I had very good impression for this open house and will possibly get several orders as a result” states Ken Akiba, Representative for Okamoto.
At the Calgary location Thomas Skinner welcomed a group of 27 students from SAIT.
“It’s great to play host to the next generation of skilled trade workers. SAIT, one of many of our educational customers, is part of the HTech (Haas Technical Education Centre) Network. This network is a unique, industry-led initiative that enables technical schools to acquire the latest Haas machine tools and CNC-related equipment, software and educational materials. We are committed to continued support of the several Haas machines currently part of the SAIT trades program” states Ross McDonald, VP, Sales Thomas Skinner.
Several CNC machines were on display and on demo including:
• Haas VF-3: (Cover plate) high speed pocket and profile machining, plunge milling using Sandvik 880 drill, high-speed roughing with the new Sandvik 419 cutter
• Haas ST-30BB: (Coupling part) 2-axis heavy roughing using the new Sandvik 4325 grade insert, API threading
• Okuma Multus B300W: (Oil Field connector) multi-function machine, part with features on multiple sides “done-in-one” operation
• Okuma Genos L300M: (Nozzle part) heavy OD roughing using the new Sandvik 4325 grade insert, drilling and tapping using live tooling
“Sandvik Coromant was pleased to be a partner of Thomas Skinner’s Calgary open house on October 2nd. I enjoyed talking and answering questions from the SAIT students, and a positive number of customers and familiar faces. There were lots of interest on the new tools from our CoroPak 13.2 and in particular the new Corocut QD parting and grooving system.
