Over 50 industry professionals attended the April 5th Mazak Lunch and Learn event held at the Mazak Technology Centre in Cambridge, Ontario.
Renishaw regional sales manager Dan Skulan spoke about probe technology and uses both during tool and workpiece set-up, as well as during the cutting cycle.
Resolution, repeatability and accuracy were emphasized by Skulan. The probe by itself does nothing he declared, it becomes an integral part of a closed loop control. thats what makes it valuable. Without the control, its just a very expensive paperweight.

According to Skulan, advanced probing actually reduces overall cycle time despite the time taken in machine with the probe.
Profit comes from good parts, not chips, he stated.
The presentation included live demonstrations of tool, part and process control probing with Renishaw equipment on Mazak multi-axis machining centres.
The next Lunch and Learn session will be hosted on May 3rd at the companys facility in Cambridge.
