OMAX 60120 JetMachining Center
At the FABTECH Canada 2012 show, taking place March 20 – 22 in Toronto, OMAX will showcase its 60120 JetMachining® Center paired with a 50 hp EnduroMAX® Pump and Tilt-A-Jet® cutting head to demonstrate fast, efficient and precise cutting of large components and multiple-part projects.“FABTECH Canada is a great opportunity for manufacturers to gain a true understanding of how OMAX’s innovative abrasive jet technology and vast product portfolio can help them achieve high levels of productivity, versatility and accuracy when machining a wide range of materials and thicknesses,” said Dr. John Cheung, CEO of OMAX.
Key advantages of OMAX abrasivejet machines include: up to a 50 percent reduction in setup time over traditional cutting methods as tool changes and complex fixturing are not required; smooth finishes that eliminate the need for secondary machining; and clean, safe operations free of noxious gases, liquids or oils that are typically used in conventional machining processes.
The 60120 JetMachining Center, in particular, is the smallest of the company’s bridge-style machines, yet is fully capable of cutting parts from large stock materials measuring up to 1.5 meters x 3 meters (5 feet x 10 feet). Additionally, the machine’s Y-axis design allows the cutting head to move past the catcher tank for unobstructed loading of such large materials. Furthermore, the machine cuts complex parts out of most materials, including metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, stone and composites directly from a CAD drawing or DXF file. It can also tackle extremely hard, reflective and nonconductive materials with an accuracy of motion as tight as +/- 0.076 millimeters (0.003 inches).
Part of what makes the 60120 model and larger OMAX machines ideal waterjet solutions are their exclusive Intelli-TRAX® drive systems that are linear encoded for position accuracy. The drives are fully enclosed inside coated steel covers, making the machines robust and well suited for harsh environments. Additionally, Intelli-TRAX provides faster traverse speeds thantraditional drive systems and greatly reduces processing times when machining multiple and nested parts.
The 60120 features an X-Y travel of 3,200 millimeters x 1,575 millimeters (10 feet 6 inches x 5 feet 2 inches) and comes standard with the company’s exclusive Intelli-MAX® Software Suite, which runs on the Windows® 7 Ultimate operating system. The software can calculate the precision of the velocity of a tool path at over 2,000 points per inch, allowing for complete control over the motion of an abrasive jet, and enabling precise, rapid machining. Additionally, the software automates most programming and tool setup work, virtually eliminating the need for extensive operator training. Free software upgrades are available for the life of the machine.
While the 60120 JetMachining Center comes standard with a high efficiency direct drive pump, available in 30, 40, 60, 70 or 80 hp with pressures up to 60,000 psi, FABTECH Canada attendees will experience the machine’s performance prowess using an optional 50 hp EnduroMAX Pump at 60,000 psi. The EnduroMAX Pump will demonstrate how manufacturers can increase their part-processing speeds and lower their operating costs on the 60120. Overall, EnduroMAX Pumps operate at 90 percent efficiency, as opposed to the 60 to 70 percent range of intensifier pumps. Plus, the EnduroMAX Pump delivers more horsepower to the nozzle, while using less electricity than intensifier pumps.
In addition to its optional EnduroMAX Pumps, OMAX prides itself on offering a wide breadth of accessories so that manufacturers can create an abrasivejet system that caters to their specific needs. Such accessories include the Tilt-A-Jet cutting head, which FABTECH Canada attendees will see in action on the 60120 machine. The Tilt-A-Jet allows any OMAX system to achieve ultra-high precision taper compensation for successfully cutting parts with square, taper-free edges. By automatically calculating and adjusting the angle of the nozzle through the controller software, the Tilt-A-Jet transfers taper from the part being cut to the scrap material.
