Amada’s new EM 3612 ZRT is an automated punching system that features a 33-ton turret punch press equipped with a high capacity tool rack and an automatic tool changer. The system is able to house up to 300 tools and 600 dies — providing the optimal punching solution for variable-mixed and variable-lot production. Machine utilization is maximized because this automated system makes it possible to process complex jobs over a period of several days without operator intervention.
Automated Tool Changes Eliminate Manual Setup
The EM ZRT is engineered to change tools while processing parts. Alongside the main turret is a buffer turret that precisely changes tools during machine operation and feeds the tools into the turret as required. Thanks to a barcode-based tool identification system (Tool ID), the EM 3612 ZRT is able to precisely manage all the available tools and perform tool setups automatically. The system reliably identifies the current status of all the tools in terms of size, shape, angle and stroke rate. If necessary, it switches automatically to a replacement tool. Setup errors are eliminated, scrap is avoided and costs are reduced. In addition, the lower turret level is fully covered by an intelligent brush table. only the tool that is currently being used is raised to the operating level. This ensures scratch-free processing while maintaining a consistently high level of quality.
Innovative, Recessed Turret
The lower turret is recessed under the brush table — providing down-forming operations by eliminating part obstruction with the lower turret. Four tapping stations (supporting inch and metric sizes) can be automatically changed to increase the number of parts that can be tapped on the NCT. When a tapping tool reaches the preset number of hits, it is automatically replaced with a spare. This allows for continuous operation over extended periods of time. Tapping stations have a unique broken-tap detection system that will immediately stop the machine in the event a tap breaks.
The EM 3612 ZRT punching system is equipped with a highly efficient servo electric twin drive system. Energy released during ram deceleration is stored and then re-used for the next punching motion — enabling the EM ZRT to achieve extremely high stroke rates while saving energy. With a punching force of 33 tons, the average power draw is between 4.5 and 5 kW. Combined with minimal maintenance costs and less required service times results in even greater savings.
Capable of processing 10 sheets with extreme accuracy and without repositioning enables the EM 3612 ZRT to minimize processing time. To further enhance productivity, an inverter-controlled vacuum system helps prevent slug pull. The amount of suction generated is automatically adjusted according to station size.
In summary, the EM 3612 ZRT is an advanced machine solution that reaches unprecedented levels of productivity while providing high-quality, scratch-free processing. Production-enhancing features include dual AC servo drives, a concealed lower turret with retractable dies, a brush table that utilizes intelligent punching system technology and a tool identification (ID) system, that all work together to ensure maximum machine utilization.
