The busy halls of FABTECH 2014
The FABTECH 2014 show opened this morning with the sounds of punching on press machines and the zipping of laser cutters. This years show kicked off for Canadian metalworking with a visit to the ESAB booth.
ESABs combination automated waterjet/plasma cutting system
Those attending the booth were given a look at ESABs lineup of products and services, including products by the newly added Victor brand. ESAB offered product demos, including their new combination automated waterjet/plasma cutting machine, the Hydrocut LX. Visit their booth, C2444.
If youre interesed in learning about welding, your next stop should be the Miller booth, which included the sister companies Hobart, Bernard, and Tregakiss. One of this highlights of this booth was the extensive product lineup and demonstrations, which included live welding.
Our editor, Doug Picklyk, had the opportunity to learn how to weld on Millers LiveArc Welding Performance Management System, then got to bring his skills to actually weld on the exhibit floor. If you are interested in welding, booth C2744/2944 is the place to be.
Moving on into the fabrication hall, our next stop was the Bystronic booth, B2225, wher their new fibre laser system overtook the exhibit floor. The BySprint Fiber 3015 with new Fiber 6000 watt lasersource offers users advanced technology and speed to ramp up productivity. But Frank Arteaga warned that its great to have a fast machine but you definitely need to make sure you can load and unload efficently to make the system worthwhile. And Bystronic offers additional features to do just that.
Welding in action at Lincoln Electric
The afternoon continued with a tour of the Lincoln Electric booth. This hugely expansive space offered attendees a chance to see welding in action, different automated applications, and new line up of welding gear, which includes a zombie-themed welding helmet. Another interesting visit was with PFERD and what is dubbed the PFERDmobile. PFERD has brough a wide range of their surface finishing products to FABTECH, but they also brough their large vehicle that is driven around the United States, fitted with PFERD products to service customers. If you get a chance to stop by this booth, make sure you take a look inside the PFERDmobile to get a glimpse into this unique offering by the company.
