Stoody has developed a series of hardbanding wires designed to support a variety of oil and natural gas applications particularly, exploration, transportation and processing.
The wires, specifically the HB-56 and HB-62 varieties, are used on drilling applications in the Canadian oilsands and various U.S. locations. As their names would suggest, the HB-62 has a 62 Rockwell C hardness while the HB-56 has a 56 Rockwell C hardness. They also now have Fearnley Procter NS-1 certification. The company has also developed Stoody HB-Ti for titanium alloys.
Stoody developed HB-62 in conjunction with a hard banding company. Pipes that were clad with this wire went from being able to drill two holes to six holes before needing resurfacing.
Other wires developed for oil and gas include ThermaClad 104TJ, which is a submerged arc wire intended for the multiple layer buildup and repair of worn tool joints and the StoodCor 136, designed specifically for erosion and corrosion concerns.
Stoody has been a member of the National Research Council of Canada’s Mining and Wear Consortium since 2002, and have worked directly with end-users in the Canadian oil sands. The StoodCor 136 wires are well suited for ID cladding on pipe, pipe elbows or plate subjected to a combination of abrasive wear and corrosion.
