Com Dev wins $11M contract for satellite components from MDA

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. – Com Dev International Ltd. has been awarded a contract for satellite components from MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.

The authorization to proceed contract will see $5.1 million initially released to cover engineering and procurement activities.

The project will deliver Ku-band and Ka-band multiplexers, switches and microwave components for use in a communications satellite.

Com Dev says the full value of the contract is expected to exceed $11 million, with an option for a replacement flight set valued at more than $10 million.

The work will be done at the companys Cambridge, Ont., facility.

“We are pleased to have been awarded this contract from one of our long-term customers,” said Mike Williams, president of Com Dev International Products.

“This reflects our acknowledged expertise in providing communication satellite components with the highest quality and efficiency and the continued trends in the marketplace for increased capacity.”

Com Dev builds subsystems and other technology for major satellite contractors, government agencies and satellite operators.

MDA, best-known as the maker of the robotic arms used on the International Space Station and the now-retired U.S. space shuttles, supplies technology to a variety of businesses that use satellites to collection information from space.
