FANUC Robotics were demonstrating their cable integrated spot welding robot, the new R-2000iB/210FS, at IMTS 2012 in Chicago this past September.

It is a member of FANUC’s family of R-2000iB material handling and spot welding robots. The new R-2000iB/210FS robot has a hollow wrist with internally routed utilities and signal cables, which makes it capable of applications like servo spot welding, clinching, riveting, and material handling.

Mike Eckert, product manager, FANUC Robotics America said in a statement, “The development of the R-2000iB/210FS was in direct response to our body and fabrication shop customers’ needs.”

“The robot’s unique hollow wrist routing with internally-routed utilities and signal cables fully supports off-line simulation leading to faster system integration through reduced dressout and part programming time.”

Compared to conventionally dressed robots, the new R-2000iB/210FS eliminates the need for dress-related adjustments when a part program changes or new parts are added, which significantly reduces tryout time and life cycle costs.

The robot uses the company’s latest R-30iB controller with functions such as iRVision and ROBOGUIDE Simulation Software.

At the show, the robot was using a servo weld gun control to simulate spot welding inside a truck cab.
