Mitutoyo Canada Inc.s new U-WAVE system enables easy wireless data communication from a measuring tool to a PC. The cordless operation improves the ability for measurement data recording in many applications with a possible data communication range up to 20 metres.

When taking measurements with a cordless device, the measurement station and PC no longer need to be adjacent, enabling uninhibited layout in the inspection room or shop floor areas. Operators can perform measurement freely on large parts without cable limitations. The U-WAVE is ideal when using long measuring tools, which require greater handling care, by eliminating the cable issues and improving the operators ability to capture data.

A complete U-WAVE communication system requires four basic components:

The U-WAVE standard package includes U-WAVEPAK (software) interface and U-WAVE-R receiver. This part of the system receives and loads data into your Excel or Notepad software via a USB port. Also included in the standard package is a wall installation mount and 1m USB 2.0 cable.The U-WAVE-T transmitter is used to send measurement data to the U-WAVE-R. You may selec IP67 (coolant proof) or buzzer model (styled so you can hear the confirming beep of data being successfully received), according to your application needs. A CR2032 lithium battery is used, lasting approximately 400,000 data transmissions, or about 10 months under normal usage.The U-WAVE-T tool connection cables. These are short cables are used to connect the measuring tool to its U-WAVE-T transmitter. There are seven cable types to choose from, depending on the measuring tool.The appropriate measuring tools that provide Digimatic data output, which is Mitutoyos proprietary output format. The Digimatic specifications remain unchanged since the first Digimatic measuring tool was released. Therefore, any tool having a Digimatic port can be used as long as the connectors are compatible.

The IP67 type U-WAVE-T transmitter has an IP67 level of dust/water protection and can be used in combination with tools such as the coolant-proof caliper, micrometer or indicator to permit use in harsh shop floor environments.

Up to 100 measuring tools can be connected to one U-WAVE-R receiver, and up to 16 U-WAVE-R units can be connected via a commercially available USB hub!
