Canadian firm lands $40M pipeline coating deal for offshore project in Africa

TORonTO — ShawCor Ltd., a Canadian energy firm, has announced that their Italian pipe coating subsidiary has won a US$40-million sub-contract on a deep sea drilling project off the coast of the Democratic Republic of Congo in West Africa.

According to the company, Socotherm S.p.A. (the subsidiary) won a deal to provide pipeline coatings for the Moho Nord Oil Pipeline project. The project is located approximately 75 kilometres off the African coast.

Socotherm will coat approximately 165 kilometres of six- to 16-inch pipe and 19 kilometres of 16-inch pipe with a three-layer polypropylene anti-corrosion coating, and 42 kilometres of eight- to 10-inch pipe with a five-layer syntactic polypropylene coating.

Work on the project It’s expected to begin in the second quarter of 2014, and will be carried out at the subsidiarys facilities in Pozzallo, Italy, and plants in Adria, Italy, and Escobar, Argentina.
